Report Writing

Lesson Purpose:

This course is different from all other report writing courses, because it is taught from a defense attorney’s perspective.  As a result, you will learn how to lay a firm foundation for your testimony under cross examination and effectively communicate your story.

Training Objectives:

At the end of this block of instruction, the student will be able to achieve the following objectives: 

  1. Understand and appreciate the significance of a well written report in a criminal proceeding. 
  2. Become familiar with the essential components of a well-written report. 
  3. Understand the legal mandates of Brady v. Maryland, 373 U.S. 83 (1963) and its progeny and how to incorporate them into every day report writing. 
  4. Identify the presence or absence of the essential components of effective report writing within several police reports.
